Hotel of new type in Amsterdam

    CitizenM

CitizenM is the hotel made of ready modules of rooms.

The hotel of new type is constructed in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The design of the project was developed by the Holland architectural studio, “Concrete”.

Each of two hundred thirty rooms has been constructed and arranged by furniture at factory. Then the received elements have been made together as containers by the ship — and the hotel has turned out.

The concept assumes reduction of all unnecessary expenses and removal of all unnecessary details. As a result of visitors receive magnificent conditions and comfort for very moderate price. In hotel of 230 numbers, 14 square metres everyone by the area.

    Amsterdam hotel

All elements-rooms are made at own factory SitizenM, are mobile and are easily transported. Rooms are placed over the building ground floor where the dynamical lobby is placed, a drawing room, creative rooms, restaurant and a bar.

Company Concrete has thought up the concept which has defined new possibilities for creative process and a new way for all involved technologies.

CitizenM wishes to clone the concept and to construct more than 20 hotels next year, with use of technology of blocks. The second hotel will be constructed in Amsterdam, the third - in Glasgow. Other European cities now are in the field of research.

    Schiphol Airport

As, according to owners CitizenM, everything, that is necessary for us during a stop in road is an excellent bed and a pure bathroom, they have concentrated on these details.

To save space, subjects from a bathroom are placed separately in a room. In the big glass cylinders are a shower and a toilet, in the small cylinder the bowl and additional space for storage of personal things is hidden.

    Interior hotel

The space effective utilisation has given a life to effective decisions; for example, the mirror simultaneously is a place for storage. In a steel framework the mirror in full growth which, on the other hand, consists of a mirror for a make-up with illumination, departments for storage of sanitary articles, in hotel available the European, English and American sockets is concluded.

On either side of a bed night little tables are located. Under a bed the huge locker for suitcase storage in an open kind or other personal things is placed. Sockets on a forward part of a bed allow to connect your laptop or phone.

    Hotel Holland

Designers have tried to create as much as possible house conditions — zones for work, rest, meal. The design of rooms is created together with furniture brand Vitra. The furniture will periodically vary, that will allow Vitra to organise additional show-rum of production.

    Electronic terminal

The philosophy of a new hotel brand is that:

“Small rest in road is necessary to All travellers. To researchers, wise men, dandies, businessmen, adventurers and dreamers. They are independent and individual, but they are united by one — aspiration to travel positively. For all mobile citizens of the world. CitizenM”

Emma Watson shows why she was named world's best-dressed woman
    By SARAH BULL
©Spellbinding: Emma Watson looked stunning in a monochrome dress as she left the Ritz Hotel in Paris
She was named the world's best-dressed woman earlier this month, and it's not hard to see why.
Emma Watson showed exactly why she beat stars including Cheryl Cole and Kate Moss to the top of Glamour magazine's survey as she stepped out in Paris yesterday showing off her enviable figure in a frilly minidress.
The 21-year-old actress looked stunning in the monochrome dress, which she teamed with slicked back hair and a pair of sky-high heels while leaving the Ritz Hotel in Paris.
©Fashionista: Emma showed off her enviable figure in the flirty outfit, which she teamed with on-trend slicked back hair
Emma has worked hard to transform herself from innocent young actress into a world-famous fashionista, but her status was secured earlier this year when she won a job with cosmetics house
    Lancôme.
In a statement released by Lancôme, Emma said: 'Being a Lancôme ambassadress today is an immense pleasure and a great honour.
'For me, Lancôme is an authentic brand. It reflects elegance, class and style.'

In February, she was handed the Elle Style Icon award by Vivienne Westwood, who admitted to having no idea who the actress was.

Was a 3am balcony leap the reason Prince Harry looked a tad under par at the Abbey?
    By CHARLOTTE GRIFFITHS
©Best foot forward: Prince Harry arrives at Westminster Abbey... but is said to have hurt his ankle eight hours earlier after leaping from the Goring Hotel veranda
As he stood at his brother’s side in Westminster Abbey waiting for the bride to arrive, Prince Harry drew more than a few questioning glances.
Despite his smart military uniform, the young Royal appeared a little jaded, with his hair askew and a definite look of someone who had not had enough sleep.
Now a possible answer to the question of why Harry seemed a touch under par on Royal Wedding day has emerged.
©Unusual exit: How Harry is said to have left the Goring Hotel hours before his appearance as best man at his brother's wedding
Sources have revealed that the best man was out socialising until 3am – eight hours before the wedding.
And he is said to have left the party venue with an athletic leap from a balcony which saw him land awkwardly on one ankle.
The scene of the raucous goings-on was The Goring, the hotel which the Middleton family had taken over in the days before the wedding on Friday, April 29.
On the Thursday evening, a group of the young Royal circle had congregated in a bar there and were enjoying themselves heartily.
The festivities came to an end only at 3am when a young copper-haired reveller casually jumped off a veranda balcony, landing with a clumsy thump on a lawn 6ft below – to roars of laughter from his friends.
©Proud moment: Prince Harry accompanies his big brother down the aisle for the wedding
According to sources, that reveller was the athletic Harry, whose looming day of duty had not stopped him sharing a few drinks with friends.
An onlooker said: ‘Harry was with Pippa Middleton and Chelsy Davy among other friends for some pre-wedding drinks.
'He was the life and soul of the party until the early hours.
‘People were surprised to see him there so late before one of the biggest wedding days of the decade, and even more surprised when he jumped off the balcony – and landed with a thump.
'He had struggled to climb up the railings to get into position, so when he jumped over the edge he did so rather unsteadily and landed awkwardly next to a flower bed.
‘He flinched for just a moment before he stood up, rubbing his ankle. Then he looked up, smiled and waved to a roar of cheers before disappearing on to the lawn where there was a secret exit.
‘People were laughing and joking that his fall could have seen him walking through Westminster Abbey the following morning with a broken leg. At one point it was thought he’d twisted his ankle.
A spokesman said: ‘Prince Harry had a private dinner with his brother, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. What he did after that is a private matter.’

  • A variety of towels in our life

A variety of towels in our life
Round us it is a lot of prophetic. Of them we so have strongly got used to many, that often we do not give them any value though it's not always justified. First of all it concerns towels which the person use constantly throughout all life.

Towels are necessary in each house

Bella CosaIn any house there are some various towels with which tenants and visitors wipe hands, the body, ware...

The towel is the textile product of the rectangular or square form created specially for a wipe of any subjects, including bodies of the person. Towels have appeared many years back. About them there are mentions in the Bible and national legends of any people.

Towels on appearance are very similar to wafers (therefore them and name wafer). They well absorb a moisture (three times better, than terry towels), perfectly mass, promote microblood circulation and a lymph. They can be used both for a wipe of ware and hands, and in a bathroom. In Hotel Bedding Collection Set — are often included wafer and terry towels.

For massage special massage towels from the flax which unique structure helps a body to relax are created. With their help also it is possible to pound a body well.

SobellaWell, and on a beach we, certainly, take a beach towel on which it is possible to sunbathe on the sun and to be wiped after swimming. Allocate also special towels for hands. These are towels of the small size which hang up in a bathroom or in a toilet about a bowl for a wipe of hands.

Towels from velour weave from five threads. Four threads form the top and bottom basis of a fabric (them in pairs bind with each other), and the fifth — pile (it is a velvety thread more often). After end of weaving a fabric cut to separate the top basis from the bottom. Other name of these towels — Luxury Hotel Towels.

Besides, towels differ on a material of which they are made. Certainly, most widespread of them is the cotton fabric from which weave towels many centuries successively. The cotton fibre well absorbs a moisture, does not collapse during the big number of washings and is steady against a friction which is inevitable at towel use. On Queen Bed Blanket always at a headboard put a cotton towel.

SovillaTowels also make from silk, a bamboo and a paper. Silk towels beautiful, gentle and improbably magnificent, but badly absorb a moisture and instantly stick to a body. Bamboo towels very soft and gentle.

From a bamboo weave beach towels since the bamboo fibre possesses cooling effect more often. From a paper make disposable towels for a kitchen room which perfectly absorb a moisture and effectively clear ware of a dirt and the food rests.

The terry towel is the most favourite towel, gentle and soft in which it is pleasant to be turned after a shower or a bathroom. Weave such towels from the terry fabric which pile turns out for the account of free giving of loops of leaky tense basis. Terry towels perfectly well absorb a moisture, quickly dry and long do not wear out.

Certainly, always it is possible to manage one towel for all occasions, always it is possible to buy not so expensive towel of so low quality, but, you see, when it is a question of such important subject as a towel, it is wrong and very unreasonable!

  • BEA Highlights, Day Two (Friday)

Despite the long and stressful day I had on Thursday, I still awoke bright and early at 4:15 am so I could join a bunch of other book bloggers who stood in line for tickets to author signings.

When we checked in to the hotel, we were informed that the city was working on the sewer system, and hot water wouldn't be available until after 4 am. I'm an eternal optimist and assured myself that I'd be able to hop in the shower at 4:15 am and the hot water would be available. Once again, I was wrong. Nothing but cold water! Needless to say, after my very quick shower, I was awake and invigorated.

We arrived at the Javits Center around 5:30 and stood in line for author signing tickets. My goal was to get a tickets for the Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins and Little Bird of Heaven by Joyce Carol Oates. Luck was on my side...tickets were obtained.

After getting breakfast at a local diner, it was finally time for the exhibit hall to open. The ribbon was cut and I walked in to a book lovers heaven! Rows and rows of publishers, "bookish" vendors, you name it. I finally had a chance to meet Miriam from Hachette after working with her for over a year now!

Finally it was time for my first ticketed author signing. First up, Joyce Carol Oates. Now, I have to admit, I didn't really look at the author signing schedule before arriving in NY. After getting my signed copy of Little Bird of Heaven, I had to rush upstairs for my book blogger signing at the Firebrand booth. I was impressed at the number of people interested in book bloggers and what we did, and spent an hour answering their questions. I was pleasantly surprised when Shane Briant, author of The Worst Nightmare stopped by to introduce himself. I will be reviewing his book (and hosting a giveway) in the next month. I also finally got to meet Tyler from Scholastic Books-an amazing resource and overall great guy!

Immediately after my signing was Suzanne Collins' author signing, so I literally ran across the exhibit hall and downstairs to the signing area. I was dismayed at the seemingly endless line, but it moved quickly and I obtained my signed copy.

I remained in the author signing area for several hours, and got to meet Melissa Marr, Sarwat Chadda, Luis Alberto Urea and his wife, Cindy (who both squealed in delight when I told them who I was!).

Late that afternoon, I met with Emily from Sourcebooks. My family has always been a fan of the books Sourcebooks publishes (expecially Horrid Henry!) so I was thrilled to sit down and talk with Emily about ways that we can work together.

By this time I was exhausted. I'd slept for a mere 3 hours the night before and had been on my feet for several hours. But the night wasn't close to being over!

After a quick trip back to the hotel for dinner (complimentary due to the lack of hot water!) we went to the BEAtweetup, the first Tweet up for Book Expo America. It was packed with bookish people, of all types, including publicists, authors, etc. Here I met Valerie Russo from Hachette, Frasier and the GetGlue gang, Bethanne Patrick (aka Bookmaven) and many many other great people!

The night was still young, so we jumped in a cab and went to a Kidlit party. I met some great YA authors, which I was exceedingly happy about because I'm interesting in expanding my reviews to YA fiction.

The night came to an end and after returning to the hotel, I quickly succumbed to a deep sleep...

    Heart With Joy

    Heart with Joy

is a coming of age story centered around fifteen-year-old Julian Hale. His mother, a writer, has just left is father to manage her family's hotel in Florida. Julian knows there is more to the separation than a hotel though, and he plans to move to Florida with his mother at the end of the school year. In the meantime he has to take care of his father and becomes obsessed with cooking delicious meals for them and watching cooking television. In the process he learns more about his father and discovers that he is not the bad guy his mother made him out to be. Julian also gets to know his elderly next door neighbor, a woman who loves bird watching and her garden, and the cute cashier at the grocery store who loves to cook as well. Through all of these experiences Julian discovers who he is and who is going to be.

Hearth with Joy is sweet. Every page contains a softness that I haven't found in any other book. Steve Cushman is great at shaping characters we can know and love. Julian is a little quirky, he's a modern teenager but doesn't care about the Internet or television much, which at first I found impossible and ended up finding endearing. Julian truly cares about everyone he meets, which makes you really love him. He's not perfect though, he's idealistic about his parents' relationship and particularly about his mother. He is trusting when he, perhaps, should not be.

I adored his neighbor, Mrs. Peters. The relationship between Julian and Mrs. Peters made me want to start bird watching and forced me to rethink my ideas about aging. Their unlikely friendship was my favorite part of Julian's coming of age.

The writing wasn't as great as the story, and there were a few moments where it kind of stumbled. Julian rides his bike alongside his father while he runs and says he could keep up with him. As someone who rides her bike a lot I can say I always pass up runners, and have no problem keeping up with them, so this comment made me put the book down and try to figure out what Cushman was trying to say. This is nitpicky, but it was distracting as I was reading.

Overall Heart with Joy is a book worth reading. It will put a smile on your face and give you drive to work towards what you want. I know that Julian is a character that will stay with me for many years.

    I'm giving Heart with Joy a B.

  • Sunday Salon: Twin Cities Book Festival

Sunday Salon: Twin Cities Book Festival
    The Sunday Salon.com

Yesterday was the long awaited Twin Cities Book Festival. I got to Minneapolis on Friday night and was excited to see a Borders right across the street from my hotel. I went there right away of course, but didn't end up buying anything. That, of course, doesn't mean I didn't buy anything on Saturday.

This is the nice stack I came away with. To be fair four of these books are literary magazines (which were only $2 each, it's amazing I didn't just buy the entire table) and one of the magazines is for a friend. I got two issues of Creative Nonfiction, a magazine I love for obvious reasons but rarely get. I talk about Number 31 yesterday in my Awesome Essays post because the subject is publishing and writing in 2025, which seemed to be a huge theme in the panel discussions I went to. Check out that post to share your ideas! I also got Number 23, which is about Mexican-American writers, something I've recently become interested in. I got a little poetry magazine called Bateau and the Alaska Quarterly Review for my friend Michael.

As far as actual books, I got the first comic book in the Fables series, A Blue So Dark by Holly Schindler (the publicist, Courtney, did a great job selling the book to me), and If You Lived Here You'd Already Be Home by John Jodzio from Replacement Press. I'm super excited to read all of these!

Yesterday was a very long and exciting day. Right away in the morning I met Reagan from Miss Remmers Review, Sheila from Book Journey, Kim from Sophisticated Dorkiness, and Alea from Pop Culture Junkie. We all had a great chat about books and life before heading over to Sheila's panel discussion about the future of publishing. Her panel was awesome-- and Kim and I said that she answered all the blogger questions just how we would have answered them. After the panel we browsed some of the tables where publishers and authors were promoting their books.

It was a huge crowd! I was excited to see so many people interested in books all in one room. We all went to get lunch with Liz from Consumed By Books and Joanne from Jo Jo Loves to Read. We talked about books (more) and life (more) and then headed back to the festival because Kim, Alea, and I wanted to go to a panel about comic books and comics that Bill Willingham was speaking at. I never realized there was such a great comics scene in Minneapolis and I'll definitely be checking into the other speakers' work as well.

Later at night Sheila, Reagan, Kim, and I went to Borders for awhile and I found a bunch of books I wanted but didn't buy any, which I think deserves a round of applause. Then my boyfriend met up with us and we went to a Chinese place for dinner.

Take One: Reagan, Sheila, me, and Kim.

Take 423: Reagan, Sheila, me, and Kim.

So that was my fun exciting time at the Twin Cities Book Festival. Hopefully I'll get to go again next year and we can do another Midwest Book Blogger meet-up again soon!

  • Just Kids

    Just Kids

I protested vehemently and announced that I was never going to become anything but myself, that I was of the clan of Peter Pan and we did not grow up (10). Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe were best friends at the height of 1969, when they lived at the Hotel Chelsea in New York City and rubbed elbows with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Robert and Patti were both struggling artists before, during, and after this period, and beyond that they were struggling young adults trying to understand a culture of young people who were somewhat like them but somewhat different at the same time. They were sometimes romantically involved and sometimes not, but they were always close. They were family.

I heard about Just Kids in March when I was listening to a two part podcast on KCRW's Bookworm with Micahel Silverblatt. Even though the podcast between Silverblat and Smith totaled 58 minutes I still found myself constantly returning to it. I rarely return to podcasts after listening to them, so the fact that I was so entranced by Patti Smith told me I really had to read this book. Her voice was so strong in the podcast, and I was pleased to find I could easily hear her voice in her memoir. I was also pleased to find she was just as easy to relate to in her book as she was on the podcast, which is amazing considering she has lived an incredible life. I've read a lot of music memoirs in the past, and I used to be kind of into Patti Smith (although not as much as earlier rockstars like Joplin or Jim Morrison) but nothing quite like Just Kids. This isn't so much a memoir about her time as a rock star; in fact, she never really gets into her music career. Instead what is found here is a relationship between two lost young people who found support in one another. Patti Smith is honest and unapologetic, but you can still see the young, wandering girl in her. And the woman has got it together. She sees things and puts them into words better than a lot of writers I've read: "I craved honesty, yet found dishonesty in myself" (65) and "Apart, we were able to see with even greater clarity that we didn't want to be without each other" (80) are just two such examples.

I had two little, little beefs with this book though. In my opinion Robert kind of fell out of the picture about 3/4 of the through the book. I think this is because their relationship changed at this point, but I still wanted to know a little more about him, even if it was just what Smith was thinking about him. I also felt like when Robert fell out of the picture Smith lost her unapologetic voice a little bit. I'm fine with that, but I thought it should be acknowledged a little more. And sometimes Smith goes off on a bit of a tangent once in awhile. So the book wasn't perfect for me, just not quite there. But I still really enjoyed it as a Patti Smith fan, as a nonfiction writer, and as a reader.

The book is also scattered with images of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe, so it just didn't seem right to me to not include such a picture in my review.

I also think I should mention that Robert Mapplethorpe's art is highly sexual and Smith is honest about this, so there are some fairly graphic descriptions in the memoir. This memoir earned a B.

  • Round-up for Weekly Geeks 2009-21

It won't be officially summer in the northern hemisphere for another nine days, but some Geekers are getting into the spirit early.

Trish offers a summer reading list for kids, and activities to go along with the books, while Gautami has a list of fun activities for the adult who's a kid at heart.

Care has been so excited about the boat she and her husband bought, and she plans on spending the summer there with her sweetie and the adorable Oscar (cute dog picture alert!).

Gavin tells us about a well-loved book-themed inn on the Oregon Coast--if you ever plan a vacation to Oregon, the Sylvia Beach Hotel is definitely worth looking into.

Lou tells the story of how she traveled from Denmark to the U.S. to meet members of her online bookclub, and Michelle also shares some favorite summer travel memories.

Do pay a visit to these posts and the others, if you haven't had a chance to. It's a great way to get into the spirit of summer (or, er, winter, if you're in the bottom half of the globe).
